Two Steps Forward with Valeree Pohl
by ZaCK, www.absolumentmadonna.frDancer Valeree Pohl, 24, who has done two world tours with Madonna, recently gave an interview to ABQ Journal.
Earlier this year, she traveled to Malawi with the executive director of Madonna’s Raising Malawi program, which works with community leaders, volunteers and non-governmental organizations to try to break that central African country’s cycle of disease, despair and poverty.
She decided to create “Two Steps Forward”, a dance project for the orphans, under the auspices of Raising Malawi…
“We visited the Home of Hope orphanage in Mchinji, Malawi, and I just hung out with the kids and played with them, helped them do a little gymnastics and flips on the monkey bars.
As soon as I gave them attention, they just lit up.
We have so much in our lives. These kids don’t even have parents. And the ones in the orphanage are actually the lucky ones.
They just had so much life in them and absolutely nowhere to put it. These kids need to be able to focus their energy and creativity in a positive way.
I know they have the creativity and the mind power. It’s a different type of education.
The kids don’t speak English, so each teacher will have a translator to help us get across the vocabulary and choreography.
But I think we’ll all speak the language of music.”
In late September, she and three other L.A. dancers will return to the orphanage, along with a videographer and costumes, makeup, light boards and other equipment. For five days, they’ll stay at the orphanage and hold a dance camp with more than 550 residents, ages 6 to 21. At the end of the week, the kids will perform for their peers, teachers and the first lady of Malawi.
Philippe van den Bossche, executive director of Raising Malawi, explained how positive this experience could be…
“In many rural African villages, children learn how to dance long before they can speak.
This wonderful dance project organized by Valeree will celebrate the traditional dances of Malawi and will give the children enrolled in the program an opportunity to learn new dances from other cultures, which will broaden their experiences and enrich their lives.”
Madonna has committed to providing most of the money needed for the Two Steps Forward program, but the dancers hope to raise more.

I have read somewhere in a book
That you can change your destiny
If you work enough, you can change your luck
Tell me where I have to be
So I can find this liberty
Don’t push me to the left
Don’t push me to the right
I don’t wanna have to fight
Cause I know that This is coming right
    Gather up your hose
    Gather up your dreams
Just to stay alive is harder than it seems
I lay awake at night wondering what to do
Then this thought came to me
We’re all tainted red and blue
Don’t push me to the left
Don’t push me to the right
I don’t wanna have to fight
Cause I know that This is coming right
Don’t push me to the left
Don’t push me to the right
    Just push me straight ahead
And you’ll find that This is coming right
I have learned nothing is for free
If my ship goes down No one’s gonna come for me
    Soldiers they take arms
    And ready for the slaughter
God forgive us all our sins
We were once your sons and daughters
Don’t push me to the left
Don’t push me to the right
I don’t wanna have to fight
Cause I know that This is coming right
Don’t push me to the left
Don’t push me to the right
    Just push me straight ahead
And you’ll find that This is coming right

    Mmmmm....

Hey little girl, when you grow up
Don't make the same mistakes I did
Learn to say no, I've had enough
Then nothing and no one can harm you

    Follow your heart
    And you'll be fine
    Follow your dreams
And take all of the time that you need

    Little girl never look back
Don't let your memories haunt you
    Learn to be strong
    All on your own
Make sure you get what you wanted

    Follow your heart
    And you'll be fine
    Follow your dreams
And take all of the time that you need

    Little queen, wearing your crown
Leave all your sadness behind you
Don't waste your time, suffering fools
One day prince charming will find you

    Mmmmmm....
    Mmmmmm....
    Mmmmmm....
    Mmmmmm....

Hey little girl, when you grow up
Don't make the same mistakes I did
Learn to say no, I've had enough
Then nothing and no one can hurt you

    Follow your heart
    And you'll be fine
    Follow your dreams
And take all of the time that you need

AA: “…And there’d be no Gaga without Madonna so let’s put it in ***CENSORED*** perspective…”
I: I love Lady Gaga, though. You talk about dressing up, and she’s the only person right now really doing that…
AA: “Yeah she’s good, but Madge was doing that when I was doing it, you know? I saw Madonna outside the Music Machine before she even made it. I was doing a gig with the band in like ’79. There was this chick outside from New York going ‘I’m going to be a star’ and it was her! And she’s got some ***CENSORED*** balls you know? She’s done as much as Dietrich did for ***CENSORED*** Hollywood stars. She’s gone in and said ‘Alright. I’ve been raped. Someone ***CENSORED*** stuck his dick in my gob in a back alley. I got up from that and I went in there and I had a big fight. And I won.’ She ***CENSORED*** won, good luck to the woman. You know? And Gaga, great. Nice girl. What can I say. Because I know how hard it is to dress different every time. I do try to wear something different at all those gigs you see me at, but it’s hard. You’ve got to buy something every ***CENSORED*** day. I understand Gaga because she’s intelligent, good media worker, very good songwriter – almost kind of classical. She interests me. But Lily Allen is the best ***CENSORED*** lyricist in the last decade. That ‘Oh and I lie here in the wet patch/in the middle of the bed…’ I mean, I wish I’d ***CENSORED*** written that.”

madonnalicious reader DJ Johnny Blaze had the opportunity again to watch Madonna on the set of W.E. giving directions in Williamsburg yesterday (Wednesday 15 September) as his pictures below show: It was so much fun to be on the set today, the paparazzi, the neighbors, the crew and the whole commotion of the area. I had a great time watching Madonna working it was a great experience to be in her presence and so up close.

Gaga has borrowed so heavily from Madonna (as in her latest video-Alejandro) that it must be asked, at what point does homage become theft? However, the main point is that the young Madonna was on fire. She was indeed the imperious Marlene Dietrich’s true heir. For Gaga, sex is mainly decor and surface; she’s like a laminated piece of ersatz rococo furniture. Alarmingly, Generation Gaga can’t tell the difference. Is it the death of sex? Perhaps the symbolic status that sex had for a century has gone kaput; that blazing trajectory is over…
Peeping dourly through all that tat is Gaga’s limited range of facial expressions. Her videos repeatedly thrust that blank, lugubrious face at the camera and us; it’s creepy and coercive. Marlene and Madonna gave the impression, true or false, of being pansexual. Gaga, for all her writhing and posturing, is asexual. Going off to the gym in broad daylight, as Gaga recently did, dressed in a black bustier, fishnet stockings and stiletto heels isn’t sexy – it’s sexually dysfunctional.
Compare Gaga’s insipid songs, with their nursery-rhyme nonsense syllables, to the title and hypnotic refrain of the first Madonna song and video to bring her attention on MTV, Burning Up, with its elemental fire imagery and its then-shocking offer of fellatio. In place of Madonna’s valiant life force, what we find in Gaga is a disturbing trend towards mutilation and death…

    Did you know it?
In the history of the MTV Video Music Awards, no artist has taken home more Moonmen than Madonna.
She has taken home a grand total of 20 Video Music Awards across her illustrious career.
On this day in 1998, she scored six prizes in one night, including her only win for Video of the Year (for “Ray of Light,” which won five; she got one more for “Frozen”).
    ***
One of the most anticipated performers at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday is Florence and The Machine.
She recently gave an interview and mentioned Madonna in the process…
“We have been looking at past VMA performances to get some inspiration, and hands-down my favorite is Madonna performing “Like A Virgin”.
    It is so amazing.
There are no dancers, no nothing.
    It is just incredible.”

(Don't you feel sorry, don't you feel sorry...)

    Broken like a crooked smile
A little hunched over but I walked that mile
I've woken from a fuzzy dream
You never would believe the things that I have seen

Don't you feel sorry for me
'Cause I'm right where the universe wants me to be
A lesson that I needed to learn
But that doesn't mean that it doesn't burn

    Don't you feel sorry
    Don't you feel sorry
Don't you feel sorry for me
'Cause I won't change my story
    Don't take all my glory
Don't you feel sorry for me

Tied up with leather and rope
A little bit of medicine to give me hope
I'm inky like a smoking gun
It's gonna take a while to heal the damage done

Don't you feel sorry for me
'Cause I'm right where the universe wants me to be
A lesson that I needed to learn (A lesson that I needed to learn)
But that doesn't mean that it doesn't burn

    Don't you feel sorry
    Don't you feel sorry
Don't you feel sorry for me
'Cause I won't change my story
    Don't take all my glory
Don't you feel sorry for me

(A lesson that I needed to learn)
No pain, no gain, no defective parts
No dirty business, no forgiveness, no broken heart

    (Don't you feel sorry)

    Don't you feel sorry
    Don't you feel sorry
Don't you feel sorry for me
'Cause I won't change my story
    Don't take all my glory
Don't you feel sorry for me

    Don't you feel sorry
    Don't you feel sorry
Don't you feel sorry for me

    If You Go Away Lyrics
    If you go away
    On this summer day
    Then you might as well
    Take the sun away

    All the birds that flew
    In the summer sky
    When our love was new
    And our hearts were high

    When the day was young
    And the night was long
    And the moon stood still
    For the night bird song

    If you go away
    If you go away
    If you go away

    But if you stay
    I'll make you a day
    Like no day has been
    Or will be again

    We'll sail on the sun
    We'll ride on the rain
    We'll talk to the trees
    And worship the wind

    Then if you go
    I'll understand
    Leave me just enough love
    To hold in my hand

    If you go away
    If you go away
    If you go away

    But if you stay
    I'll make you a night
    Like no night has been
    Or will be again

    I'll ride on you smile
    I'll sail on your touch
    I'll talk to your eyes
    That I love so much

    But if you go
    I'll understand
    Leave me just enough love
    To hold in my hand

    If you go away
    If you go away
    If you go away

    If you go away
    As I know you must
    There'll be nothing left
    In the world to trust

    Just an empty room
    Full of empty space
    Like the empty look
    I see on your face

    Oh, I'd have been the
    Shadow of your shadow
    If I thought it might
Have kept me by your side

    If you go away
    If you go away
    If you go away

    Please, don't go away

Mandy Gonzalez: With Madonna, it was super cool
by ZaCK, www.absolumentmadonna.frThe New York Times asked several actors to reminisce about their own brushes with celebrity greatness, including Mandy Gonzalez who once met Madonna when she was a little girl…
“I was about 9 years old. I got this job in a Pepsi commercial tied to Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” video. The idea was that she was in this Pepsi studio, but she was thinking back to when she was a kid. I was in a birthday party scene.
They had me wear this horrible tomboy outfit, while all the other kids got to wear dresses. I remember Madonna came in to see all the kids.
I was really shy, but she singled me out and held my face and said, “Doesn’t she look like somebody?”
    It was super cool.”

The perfect school for free in Malawi
by ZaCK, www.absolumentmadonna.frThe architectural brains behind MADONNA’s new all-girl academy in Malawi won the pop star’s trust by creating a boarding school blueprint which doesn’t resemble a gloomy prison for kids.
German-born Markus Dochantschi was introduced to the star by her Raising Malawi charity director and he offered to create a plan for the perfect school for free.
He tells Architectural Digest magazine that Madonna was very specific about what she wanted her Raising Malawi Academy for Girls to look like.
He says, “We were asked to design a prototype boarding school replicable by others even in different countries, without repeating the typical British-style school that you see in former British colonies.”
“The design is not just about aesthetics and materials but about helping to understand the society you’re building for. For example, in Africa, you realise the importance of open space, of being outside and understanding nature. So we designed a very open pedestrian campus.”
Dochantschi tells the publication the school will cater for 450 students from all over Malawi - and he reveals the pop star is keen for all the children who start the academy to finish with honours.
He adds, “Traditionally, a lot of girls drop out in eighth grade, shortly before they get married… Madonna hopes that the school will instill pride in their homeland, and that educated young women will understand the importance of remaining in Malawi, supporting their own communities.”
The architect also reveals Madonna broke ground on the school with a shovel which featured the inscription ‘Dare to dream’.
