  1. An official press release for the Material Girl campaign (confirming what MadonnaTribe reported a few weeks back) and the first promotional images of Madonna have just been released. Here's what it says:International Icon and world renowned Material Girl Madonna has teamed up with her daughter Lola to create a new fast-fashion junior collection "Material Girl” which is exclusively available at Macy’s, just in time for back-to-school season, and will be in-store on August 3rd. Madonna commented, “Lola’s influences, you know, watching films, watching music videos - she pays attention to what's going on in the street and what people are wearing, and she's much more fashion forward and savvy than I am at this point!" A teaser ad campaign will break on June 29, 2010 and will offer a hint of the celebrity muse for the launch of “Material Girl.” Madonna and Lola picked the muse who will appear in the multi-platform marketing campaign launching the first week of August, Material Girl mixes hard and soft elements, like a tutu dress and studded combat boots, or an oversized boyfriend sweatshirt with a floral print mini skirt. Inspired and designed by the duo, "Material Girl" will also launch in multiple categories including footwear, handbags and jewelry and will be available exclusively in approximately 200 Macy’s stores and online at www.macys.com. “We mix and match textures and fabrics and elements that are both masculine and feminine. It's not complicated. It's dressing in layers. It's not looking like you took too much time thinking about what you're wearing,” says Madonna. Visit http://www.macys.com/materialgirl or the “Material Girl” Facebook and Twitter pages to see more exciting imagery and behind the scenes videos featuring our Material Girl, along with Lola’s blog on what’s hot in fashion and a sweepstakes for a chance to meetMadonna at Macy’s Herald Square in September.
  2. A year ago today one of the world's music icons suddently and prematurely died at just 50 years old. Michael Jackson left the world in a shocking and surprising way, just as he lived.Queen of Pop Madonna paid her respect to Jackson live on stage on each concert date of her Sticky & Sweet tour 2009. Dancer Kento a true fan of Michael, played his part during a medley put in the middle of Madonna's song Holiday. Today we want to celebrate the life and legacy of Michael Jackson today with a set of our own photos taken during the London, Manchester and Udine S&S concerts. Also included are a couple of photos of the Madonna dancers paying their respect to Michael in front of the fan shrine at the O2 in London last year. Click on images to enlarge
  3. Learn to eat the Madonna way, a healthier way. This is what you find in the new book by Mayumi Nishimura, one of the most skilled chefs in the macrobiotic world today, released in the US this month by Kodansha International.Mayumi, who prepared delicious recipes for the Ritchie family for the last seven years, now introduces her innovative and enticing approach to macrobiotic cooking in her first English-language cookbook,Mayumi’s Kitchen: Macrobiotic Cooking for Body and Soul. The book – featuring more than 130 of Mayumi’s most popular recipes – includes a letter from Madonna in which the superstar commends her longtime chef’s “amazing food.” Mayumi Nishimura trained under Michio Kushi, founder of the Kushi Institute< and the foremost authority on macrobiotics. In 1983 she helped to open the Becket, MA, branch of the Institute, where she later worked as a cooking instructor. In 2001 she becameMadonna’s private chef, eventually accompanying the singer on four world tours (Drowned World Tour, re-Invention Tour, Confessions Tour and Sticky & Sweet Tour). 4. Yet another different advertising for the first collection of sunglasses designed by Dolce & Gabbana and Madonna appeared on the pages of Italian newspaper "Il Corriere della Sera today. This one is again designed as a horizontal banner showcasing another brilliant image created by Steven Klein for MDG as you can see in the scan below courtesy of our friendGIOrGIO at Super-Pop.it.
  5. Australian pop soul singer SIA has just released her new album We Are Born on June 18. This album is almost entirelly penned by SIA herself but track 13 comes quite as a surprise to Madonna fans as it's a cover of the 1989 song and 1990 single "Oh Father" written by Madonna and her long time collaborator Patrick Leonard. In this cover the piano and strings from the original version are removed. SIA adds a more dramatic spin and a haunting quality to one of the most beautiful and painful ballad Madonna has ever written. She basically doesn't copy Madonna but makes her lyrics and the song her own. Click on the YouTube link below to listen to a live version of this cover. The UK album release has now been pushed back to 27 September. Thanks to our readers Olaf, Daniel and Peter Magennis
  6. Our community member DarthMadonna is bringing toMadonnaTribers the latest exclusive news about the new Material Girl clothing line campaign by Macy's.The teaser campaign is called Who's That Girl and will kick off on June 29th to build up interest for the August 3rd launch date. It features a girl with bleached hair and very 80's rocker style leather jacket with a rosary in her hand but never really showing her face. Macy's stores in San Francisco's Union Square and New York's Herald square will have huge Who's That Girl banners decorating the shops but the actual stock of clothes will be moved in stores just the night befor launching date. The shops are to feature lace wallpaper with chain link fence wall paper, very "Like A Virgin era". The images being used for the various adverts also feature young women in a very 80's style rocker look and not Madonna herself. Considered names for the handbags areMadonna song titles such as Lucky Star and Angel but it's still unclear if those will be used in the end. The line also features bags, shoes, leggings, leather jackets with fringe, short frilly skirts, graphic tees and bustiers, yes bustiers! Everything has a very 80's look. Promotion will also be done online with a Facebook page that has already been set up. But the best part of promotion will be a chance to meet Madonna herself. Macys will also be offering US Macy's shoppers in September a chance for a paid trip to New York City and a meeting the Queen Of Pop The line will not debut in all of Macy's 800 stores in the US but only 200/300 stores will be carrying it at first with more to be added depending on the success of the brand. Thanks to DarthMadonna. Check our forums for updates.
  7. More than two decades after she released the single "Material Girl", Madonna will reinvent her song title as the name of her new fashion collection set to launch atMacy's this August. Madge and her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes (nicknamed Lola) codesigned the "Material Girl" line, so don't expect racy cone-shaped bras to invade Macy's racks. The line will debut with a range of clothes, jewelry, purses and shoes with plans to foray into beauty next year. It aims to capture the latest trends at an affordable price ($12 to $40) and to incorporate Lola's fashion taste. "I really like the way Lola dresses, and I think this line is absolutely an extension of her taste," said Madonna in a press statement. Today, Macy's released the first three sketches from the "Material Girl" collection. Wanna see?! Lola might hardly be a teenager but she's displayed a penchant for fashion and counts fashion designer Stella McCartney as a mentor. Alongside her mother at the Nine premiere, Lola appeared on the red carpet in fishnets, a lace tutu miniskirt, a leather jacket, black Doc Martens, layered necklaces, black fingerless gloves, and jade green nail polish. See Lourdes' style evolution in the slideshow. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight last March, Madonna said, "We [Lourdes and I] rarely disagree when it comes to clothes, I have to say. That's why most of my closet is being raided on a regular basis." Based on the "Material Girl" sketches, the line looks to bring together Madonna's signature styles (think hair bows, lace and studs) with Lourdes' contrasting layered look, similar to the lace tutu and combat boots that she wore to the Nine premiere. The celebrity muse for the collection has yet to be revealed, but from the ad below, looks very Taylor Momsen to me. What do you think? To further speculate, the choice of Momsen seems like an especially wise marketing decision if she'll be wearing clothes from the collection on the next season of Gossip Girl. An additional hint on the celebrity muse's identity? This Madonna quote about the roots of the song "Material Girl" from her Entertainment Tonight: "The thing about 'Material Girl' is that it's not meant to be taken literally. If you're a material girl, you're a girl with a sense of humour because it was always meant in an ironic way. A material girl cares about how she looks but it doesn't run her life." Look for the "Material Girl" collection in Macy's stores and online at Macys.com this August. And coming soon, check out macys.com/materialgirl for Lola's fashion blog. From the Fashion Statement blog at Red Eye Chicago.
  8. You've seen it first from afar and up-close, then you had the chance to see how big it looks compared to the Monument to King Victor Emmanuel II. But there's even more to see about the huge billboard advertising the MDG sunglasses collection in Piazza del Duomo in the very heart of Milan, Italy. The first two images below have been taken by MadonnaTribe reader Giovanni right from the top of the Milan Cathedral which is directly facing the building wrapped by the MDG ad. The third picture is another shot taken from below, and shows how the billboard looks when seen from the middle of the square. Click to zoom.

  10. MadonnaTribe community member Thomas Mora attended the Los Angeles screening of Desperately Seeking Susan last night.Director Susan Seidelman also attended the screening along with Rosanna Arquette. M-Tribe reporter Thomas also took some nice photos of the the actual handbag/suitcase that was featured and used by Susan/Madonna in the film, which is owned & brought to the screening by director Susan Seidelman. Thomas had a chance to ask Seidelman what happened to the jacket from the film, the response was that Rosanna Arquette has her jacket and someone else has the other. click to enlarge

  12. As the July 8 announcement of the Emmy Awards nominations approaches, the question becomes: What episodes will "Glee" (or any of its competition) submit to be considered in the various categories? According to the Hollywood Reporter, the plan is for the show's producers to submit the pilot and "The Power of Madonna," the episode-long tribute to Madonna's music that aired in the spring half of the series' first season on April 20. Individual episodes of series are submitted to the Emmy nominators at the discretion of the members of the show’s production team, based on the category in which they compete (producers submit episodes for the top categories, actors submit episodes they feel contain their best work, etc.). The nominations will be read July 8. The awards will be handed out August 29.

  14. Fresh of her return in the UK, Madonna dropped in to a charity music event at a Kent school, organised by the daughter of Mohamed Al Fayed. The Lawnfest fundraiser was held on Friday night in aid of The New School at West Heath, Sevenoaks. Pop star Lemar was the headline act at the event to boost the school's bursary fund, organised by Camilla Fayed. Madonna's appearance was to help publicise the event, which also included an art exhibition, although she did not perform. The New School aims to rebuild young damaged lives through education. Principal Christina Wells said: "This fundraiser will help grant a bursary for those young people whose lives have been damaged by abuse, bereavement, bullying or other trauma."
  15. Dear Friends, So many of you helped bring Light to the situation in Malawi -- thank you. Over the last several weeks the world has focused on this small African nation where a couple was sentenced to 14 years hard labor for the "crime" of homosexuality. After worldwide outrage the decision was overturned and the couple is now free! It is my hope that this is just the beginning of our global community coming together to bring justice to Malawi. Seven years ago I could not locate Malawi on a map. Since then, this small African nation has become the center of my world -- capturing my heart and transforming my life. Let me tell you how.
  16. As previously reported here on Madonnatribe.com the definitive book about the life of the late photographer Herb Ritts is going to be released this coming September. Madonnatribe has also exclusively learned what is the exact "Madonna content" in the book. The Queen of Pop appears in four pictures. As previously reported here the the piece of resistance is the never before published portrait of Madonna circa 1984. This stunning previously unreleased photo is the only Madonna photo of the four in this book in full colour. The Queen of pop wears on her head, as sort of scarf, a pair of male boxers with a floral design along with a colourful cross as an earring that look made of Murrine, the coloured glass patterns made by Italian glass makers in Venice. She also wears a another circle earring next to the cross, as the ones usually seen in her first videos such as Borderline. The other three photos are in black and white and are candid photos. One comes from the Blond Ambition era, Madonna dances with Carlton wilborn who is actually lifting her up in the air while she has her legs firmly crossed on his waist. Long time backup singerDonna DeLory is also in the photo, she amusely watches the scene. A third photo comes from the early 90's. Ex boyfriend Tony Ward pours a can of beer or soda on Madonna's blond head while she has he mouth open and eyes closed. Two male models are also in the pic. one of them is grabbing Madonna from behind. The last (chronologically) photo comes from a Vanity Fair Party, circa 1998. Cher, KD Lang, Madonna with her signature "fallen angel" hairdo and Joni Mitchell are all posing together for Herb's camera. That's about it. The never before seen photo of Madonna is really worth buying this book!

  18. There's no such thing as a bad publicity, and they know it well. So - just as Madonna did over the past 25 years and counting - Lady Gaga and director Steven Klein were clearly aware of what to expect when they shoot, edited and released the singer's new video. But while the usual Madonna vs Gaga comparison is rather tired and not worth to be posted on these pages, the Alejandro video feedback is something different. If you have seen it, you certainly know why. Just in case, here's nothing but a very few of the articles that stormed the internet since the videoclip was released yesterday. Lady Gaga 'Alejandro' Music Video Evokes Madonna Influence, by Jennifer Waite on Yahoo! If you haven't seen the Lady Gaga Alejandro music video yet, you may just want to take a look. If you're a Madonna fan, that is. Why? Because the entire Lady Gaga Alejandro music video seemed like an over-the-top homage to the original bad girl of Pop, with some of Lady Gaga's signature touches and futuristic spin. Gaga gives us something we've never seen before, or have we? And that's the point. Lady Gaga's 'Alejandro' Is Not Just A Madonna Homage: The Counterpoint by James Montgomery on MTV The conventional wisdom surrounding Lady Gaga's new "Alejandro" video - based on a few preview clips and a viewing or two - seems to be that it is probably her most Madonna clip to date, a glamorous, black-and-white mélange of Madge's finest moments (particularly the "Vogue" video, or anything else she did with director David Fincher). And while conventional wisdom isn't exactly wrong, it's definitely taking the easy way out. Alejandr Oh No by Lauryn Brooke on the New York Press Did you ask Madge if you could copy not one, not two or three, but four ideas from her previous music videos? My guess is you didn’t, because she would have kicked your ass all the way back to the Upper West Side just for suggesting it. Just because you collaborated with Steven Klein (who also bears some responsibility in all of this) doesn’t give you the right to rip off the woman who paved the path for you to act this way. Lady Gaga's New Video Takes Madonna Homage a Little Too Far on HispanicBusiness.com Can an artist be ripping off another even when she is blatantly paying homage? That is the question that nags as one watches Lady Gaga's latest video, "Alejandro," which has all the hallmarks of a classic Madonna number: sinewy male dancer love-slaves, Catholic imagery, an ethnic theme. A la Madonna, Gaga sports a black pantsuit and even a cone bra - though Gaga's version is tipped by a pair of guns. And then there is the loping chorus sung by a voice remarkably evocative of you-know-who's.
  19. Tyson Ballou has shared with Swide his impressions after shooting the MDGcampaign with Madonna. Tyson does not need to be introduced; he is one of the outstanding male models that have worked for the fashion big names. His modelling includes campaigns for Giorgio Armani, Versace, Exte, Calvin Klein and of course Dolce & Gabbana. This Texan who started his modelling career at the age of fifteen has nothing to envy to famous models such as Mark Vanderloo. He is known as much for his flawless body than for his professionalism. He will surely pass the test of time and should continue to surprise and enchant. You might have seen him a lot lately, indeed he is the handsome mysterious man seducing Madonna in the MDG sunglasses advertising spot. The campaign was shot bySteven Klein in New York and confirms Tyson’s charisma and beauty. Swide went backstage and had a few words with The Body... It was all about sunglasses of course! Swide: How was it to work with Madonna for the MDG campaign? TB: It was a great surprise as I only found out that I would work with her on the day of the shoot. I enjoyed it a lot. Swide: Apart from protecting your eyes from the sun, in which occasions do you wear sunglasses? To cope with after-party mornings, to watch the world around, to hide from paparazzi… TB: In all these occasions, my thing is to spend a fortune on a pair of sunglasses and to leave it somewhere for someone else to enjoy… In a word, I tend to loose them. Swide: Do you think a pair of sunglasses does influence a look? TB: Of course, like a hat would do. Swide: What are the most important criteria in choosing a pair of sunglasses? TB: The style, it has to suit the shape of your face. I prefer lenses that are quite dark, brown reddish tones to almost black. Swide: One can easily break or loose a pair, which one did you manage to keep the longest and what did happen to it? TB: I have never managed to keep a pair for a very long time, one of my favourite pairs that a friend gave me were lost in 2 weeks. There were quite exclusive, when I got them they were not even sold yet. The sunglasses I am wearing today might be the ones that I have had for the longest time, maybe because I have lost them but managed to find them. "Company" featured a now-vintage portrait of the soon-to-be Queen of Pop by Brian Aris that year and was also one of the first glossy thick magazines to put her on the cover. Most of her previously early cover magazines were stapled issues and this one is not stapled. Click to zoom. Thanks to Jeremy from Arnhem, Holland.
