  2. Madonna's estranged brother is speaking out about the famous pop star -again. Christopher Ciccone, who reportedly hasn't spoken to his older sibling since his book "Life With My Sister Madonna" was published in 2008, told RadarOnline.com that she isn't "following societal values." Referring to the 52-year-old singer's younger lovers, Ciccone noted that "if she continues to date all these much younger guys, it could start to look creepy." "But I think that a lot of Madonna's emotional needs are met by taking care of her children," he continued. "These boyfriends must really be like a kind of distraction for her." "She certainly isn't following societal values, but then again my sister never has and probably never will either," Ciccone, 50, said. Still, he commended the music icon on her parenting skills. Lourdes, Madonna's 14-year-old daughter with ex Carlos Leon, "has turned out really well." "I'm sure her mother is very proud of her," he added. Ciccone also offered up praise of his sister's career while criticizing Lady Gaga. "I can see a lot of my sister's influence in what Lady Gaga is doing today. It's like 'Madonna on speed' actually," he said, explaining that Gaga is talented but sometimes "goes too far with her costumes and persona." "Madonna was a genius at changing her image into something that her fans could identify with and replicate if they wanted," Ciccone said. Source: New York Daily News
  3. Ok, this is not about "our Madonna" but quite funny! A German firm called Madonna has asked to register their name as a trademarkin Switzerland but the Swiss Federal Insitute of Intellectual Property and courts have ruled on the matter. It can't be done as the term 'Madonna' is a reference to theVirgin Mary, and that, as such, its commercial use as a trademark would be immoral. The court defined the meaning of the disputed term 'Madonna' in the understanding of the Swiss public in German, French and Italian (the main languages spoken in Switzerland). It confirmed that, at least in Italian, the term 'Madonna' refers to the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, and that such an understanding in only one national language was sufficient. The Virgin Mary occupies a central place in Catholic Christianity. Secondary meanings in art and modern culture relied on by the applicant, (for example"our Madonna") are not sufficiently strong to supersede the primarily religious meaning of the word. In that respect, the name 'Madonna' differed from the name 'Christ' – a registered trademark for watches and jewellery in Switzerland – which is also a common second name in Switzerland. 5. CNN’s replacement for Larry King, sure knows how to grind an ax. British TV personalityPiers Morgan has barely taken over the job and he’s already banned pop star Madonnafrom appearing. What’s the problem? It seems that Madonna was an “annoyance” to him back when he was a sleazy Fleet Street tabloid newspaper editor. Is he kidding? Madonna famously clashed with any number of London’s tabloids during the time she lived there. What’s new about that? If Larry King was known for anything it was for making his show a forum for all points of view for people from all walks of life. But Morgan seems determined to carry on a feud that goes back two decades. “She’s kind of been an irritant in my life for 20 years, so I had to ban her from the show. It’s probably quite childish, but it made me feel better,” he said. Actually, it is more than quite childish. CNN should have its collective head examined for hiring Morgan to replace King. Say what you will about, King’s checkered past, he always saw himself as a newsman and approached his job that way. Morgan is an entertainer, and now fans of the show will have to put up with his petty jealousies. What’s more, it seems like the whole tone of the show is about to change. Instead of a news show, it will be an entertainment chat show opened to people who pay proper deference to Morgan’s overweening ego. Morgan, of course, says he will reconsider Madonna’s ban if she makes a sincere apology. “A bended-knee apology on CNN might swing it. Other than that, it’s a lifetime ban,” he says. Ha. That will never happen. The British newsman says he already has plans to interview a major pop superstar, Lady Gaga. “Lady Gaga is half her age, twice as good-looking, twice as talented, and twice as hot. I mean, why would I bother with Madonna, seriously,” he said. Lady Gaga should tell Morgan to take a flying leap. In fact, celebrities should boycott his show, until this effete snob apologizes to Madonna. Source: www.theimproper.com
  6. Madonna issues a statement about MalawiMadonna issues a statement about MalawiMadonna issues a statement about Malawi In an exclusive statement issued to the Huffington Post queen of popMadonna speaks about her involvement in Raising Malawi: "I remain deeply committed and I am more passionate than ever about helping the children of Malawi - especially the girls. In a country where only 33% of Malawian girls attend secondary school, I realize that the plans we had in place for the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls simply would not serve enough children. My original vision is now on a much bigger scale. I want to reach thousands not hundreds of girls. I want to do more and I want to do it better. While I am grateful to all the people who have given me guidance and support up until now, we are in the process of implementing several changes and additions to the management of Raising Malawi in both the US and Malawi. I am also working with Trevor Neilson and his team at Global Philanthropy Group to shift the strategies that we had in place so that we can accomplish our goals with more efficiency as we continue to consult with our government partners in Malawi. This is a larger challenge than I thought, but I welcome it. We are focused on an approach which builds schools within communities across the country. We are currently determining the size, location, staffing and curriculum of the schools. I will continue to monitor the process of reaching these goals here and through my ongoing visits to Malawi. 13. Madonna shipped boxes and bales containing toys, chocolate and sweets to six orphanages in Malawi. Along with the goodies, the Queen Of Popincluded a handwritten note that read "To my Malawi children on Christmas and Boxing Day. I wish I was with you. See you soon, M." Officials at Madonna's charity, Raising Malawi, distributed the items and other miniature Christmas cards signed by Madonna and children Lourdes and Rocco. The notes read: "Mercy, David, Rocco, Lourdes and I send you a blessed Christmas to all of you!" Also in the bales were new clothing and items that Madonna, Lourdes, Rocco and Mercy have outgrown and can no longer use, officials tell UsMagazine.com. Madonna also threw an open-air party at Consol Homes, an orphanage near Lilongwe, the town where she teaches a Kabbalah spirituality class to children. Over 1,000 people from the surrounding villages were invited to celebrate with the 2,500 orphans and underprivileged children. "Madonna says she always enjoys the traditional dances the villagers perform for her when she visits," Yacinta Chapomba, director of Consol Homes, tells Us. "She asked us to invite as many villagers as possible for the Christmas party." Source: Us Magazine

  15. With snow causing shutdowns at UK airports, passengers on a diverted Virgin Atlantic flight from New York are complaining, not about the weather but about special treatment given Madonna and her entourage. Flight VS010 was supposed to land at Heathrow, but was instead diverted to Standsted Airport, where passengers sat on the plane for nearly three hours -- except for Madonna, who was reportedly allowed to disembark two hours before everyone else. "After about an hour, a bus came along and took her and her party of about 15 off the plane. It seemed a little unfair, it's not like she is the President or anything. The rest of us all had to wait for another two hours," a disgruntled fellow passenger tells the UK'sDaily Mail. A statement from Virgin, obtained by AOL Travel News, says the plane was "diverted due to very difficult weather conditions" and the disembarkation was delayed by ground crew until buses arrived to take passengers to London's Heathrow. "We apologize for any inconvenience this diversion caused, but for safety reasons this action was unavoidable." As for Madonna's special treatment, Virgin says, "It is common across airlines that business- and first-class passengers disembark first and this is reflected in the higher cost of the ticket." An unidentified passenger, who was also in Virgin's Upper Class, says "Madonna was taken off the plane way before the rest of the first-class people. We were all grumbling about it." The passenger also complains the Queen of Pop used her hour-long delay to do yoga in the plane's aisles. Source:AOL/Daily Mail
  16. Leonid Gurevich sent in his brand new Madonna-inspired artwork - a fantastic illustration story that he conceived, styled and illustrated with Madonna as the Snow Queen, inspired by her celebrity status, her strength, and the whole concept of Public Loneliness that only someone of her caliber can experience. For styling Leon also used clothing from some of my favorite designers' collections. Check out a written part and the full spread version of the 'Penguins' page on Leon's blogLeonsEscapades.blogspot.com. . Special thanks to Leonid Gurevich.
