  1. Sep22 Chart Celebration ahead for Madonna Madonna is looking to equal Elvis Presley’s total of 11 UK album number ones this weekend with her new retrospective Celebration opening up a narrow lead at retail. The double set is presently a few thousand sales ahead of its nearest rival, fellow Warner Bros release The Resistance by Muse, which debuted at one last Sunday. If Celebration remains in front it will place Madonna in joint second place with Presley behind The Beatles with the most UK chart-topping albums. Her tally of 10 album number ones dates back to 1984’s Like A Virgin and also takes in the Evita soundtrack, which features both her and other artists. Madonna’s album leads another bumper week of new releases with four other newly-issued albums among the 10 biggest sellers of the week so far. These include Dizzee Rascal’s new Dirtee Skank-issued album Tongue N’ Cheek, which features his three number one singles, Casablanca/Island act Mika’s second album The Boy Who Knew Too Much and Pearl Jam’s Island debut Backspacer. source: musicweek
  2. The online website of TheTimes is now showcasing the Madonna interview with Dan Cairns that will headline and make the cover story of the Culture supllement of The Sunday Times tomorrow morning. Madonna shows Dan Cairns all too clearly who is in control - of her life, her astonishing 27-year career, and their meeting. The British nerve centre for Madonna Inc is to be found in two adjoining townhouses in central London. The buildings are a home for the singer and her four children when they are in this country, plus offices and a personal gym. From the outside, the six-storey edifices are standard-issue London mansions - that is, way beyond the standards most of us are accustomed to. There is something impregnable about such streets: an air of discreet luxury pervades them. Litter seems not to blow or rattle down their immaculate expanses; no chewing gum or urgently expelled kebab encrusts their gleaming paving stones. You might glance up at Madonna's perfect residential pair and admire their symmetry, the cleanness of their architectural lines. But you would be more likely, unless you were a lurking paparazzo, not even to notice them; they are merely two houses in a long, wide street of the things. Anonymous, ordered, well maintained and with a touch of class. Madonna wouldn't have it any other way. "Where do you live?" she asks when we meet later. Dalston, I say. The name doesn't register. Stoke Newington, I add as a pointer. "That's not even in London," she scoffs. And it isn't, to be fair. Or not in this London, at any rate. 4. In pictures: ''Celebration'' standees from Italy The release of Madonna's ultimate collection of hits won't certainly go unnoticed by both die-hard fans and casual customers in Italy thanks to nice standees and displays created by Warner Music Italy to promote "Celebration". The images below are freshly in from the media stores in downtown Milan - click to zoom.
  5. For some, the time when Madonna had something halfway interesting to say has long since gone, but when it comes to her back catalogue (almost 40 Top 10 UK and US chart smashes), it’s hard to argue with the quality and status. Or, indeed, the impact and influence she has had on contemporary music over the past 25 years. So if the albums of the last decade ( Ray of Light, Music, American Life, Confessions on a Dance Floor) haven’t done it for you, then bask, surely, in the remastered glory of Material Girl, Into the Groove, Justify My Love, You’ll See, Express Yourself, Ray of Light and Hollywood . In a nutshell: top pop tunes from the world’s most successful female chart act.
  6. Janet Jackson and Madonna are not planning on teaming up for a musical project, despite a report in a British tabloid, Access Hollywood reports. After the MTV Video Music Awards, OK Magazine reported that Madonna and Janet, who were both part of the Michael Jackson tribute at the event, had decided to collaborate: "It was a meeting of two great musical minds. Madonna was so impressed with Janet’s tribute to Michael that they started talking about how great it would be to honor him by doing something together…There was definitely something very interesting being planned between them," it was reported. When contacted by Access Hollywood, however, a rep for Madonna said the report was not true. Additionally rumors that the two ladies went to dinner together following the VMAs also did not happen, the rep said. From Access Hollywood.

  8. Hard Rock Madonna: Rome Today we can show our readers the Madonna memorabilia displayed in one more Hard Rock Cafe restaurant in Europe. This time it's the one in Rome, Italy where we find some interesting pieces. The "piece de resistance", displayed at the bar, is one of the outfits used by Madonna during the famous photo shoot with Herb Ritts in 1987 from which a photo was used on the cover of the You Can Dance album. An autographed poster of Madonna wearing a similar dress (pants looks a bit different) is also displayed at the bar lounge. Two Madonna images, from Who's that Girl and Erotica, can also be seen framed on the walls. Another interesting piece displayed is a poster for the Blond Ambition Tour you should have some concerns about when it comes to its authenticity: The tour is called "Blonde" instead of Blond and the photo used comes from 1991 and not 1990.
  9. Events: Italian Fans Celebrate! Madonna fans from Italy also had the chance to be among the first in the world to get their hands on a copy of the new Madonna album yesterday night at the "Celebration" release party organized by Fnac store in Turin. Doors at the Fnac store in Via Roma opened at 10 PM and a lot of fans gathered together to party until midnight when the new album was officially made available to purchase. The venue was quite packed and everything literally screamed "Celebration" as you can see from the nice pics from the event courtesy of M-Tribe contributor Svadas from Turin, Italy. Click the Full Article link below for even more images. Thanks to Svadas09.
  10. "It's So Cool" is included in the Deluxe Version of "Celebration" but can also be purchased individually for 1.29 €.
  11. “What? No ‘Hanky Panky’? Is this some kind of joke? Given how obsessive her fans are, it’s a thankless task for Madonna to assemble a two-CD hit collection. But from the opening one-two of ‘Hung Up’ and ‘Music,’ two of her best ever, Celebration kicks off with pure bliss and never lets up. It’s a dizzying, nonchronological spin through the Madonna years, years it makes you feel lucky to be living through. Her hitmaking genius is unmatched and—with the new Eurocheese blast ‘Celebration’ and the Lil Wayne duet ‘Revolver’—undiminished. It’s almost enough to make you forget that they left off ‘Angel,’ which is just plain crazypants.” —Rob Sheffield
  12. Madonna Talks: Oldies Are Goodies Here are more excerpts from the new Madonna interview with Larry Flick. This is the part where Larry asks Madonna to have a look back at her career, and talk about her relationship with her older songs. LF: Celebration is about to come out. This is your third greatest hits album, but you're not the look-back girl, are you? M: No. LF: So, does it feel weird that everyone's so excited about revisiting your old songs? M: No, I'm not thinking that way. I'm happy that people want to hear my old songs. I've written some good songs! LF: Do you ever listen to them, yourself? M: I try not to (laughs). Actually, sometimes, I do. But the thing is that I'm on tour right now, and I'm doing some of those old songs. Inevitably, I'm going to be sicker of the songs that I'm singing every night. It's nice to revisit songs that I haven't heard for a while, and I think, “Yeah that was a good song. I like that.” LF: What song are you feeling really good about right now? M: That is old? LF: Yeah. M: I like “Beautiful Stranger.” That's a good one. LF: Are there are any song that you don't want to celebrate? M: No. They are all a part of me, and an aspect of me, or a pivotal moment for me, even if they're not necessarily pivotal in a big, public way for me. I can certainly pinpoint what was going on in my life at that time. They are sign-posts. LF: Is there one song of yours that you think is perfect? M: I certainly have songs that I feel resonate more and speak truthfully more about me than others. Like “Don't Tell Me.” Or “Like It Or Not.” Also, “Live To Tell” would be one too. LF: Do you ever stop and think, “I sure got a lot done”? M: (Laughing) Sometimes. That would require free time!
  13. Exclusive: Frozen! The MadonnaTribe team has heard some more exclusive tidbits coming from the rehearsals of Madonna's Sticky and Sweet Tour 2009. After hearing and reporting first that Holiday will be replacing Heartbeat and a rocky version of Dress You Up, played on a guitar riff calling to mind The Knack's song "My Sharona", will take the place of Bordeline in the Old School part of the show we heard that there's another surprising song change in the show. This time the surprising news is that a dance version of the 1998 hit single Frozen is being rehearsed in the place of the "not so loved by fans" "Rock guitar version" of Hung Up! Frozen, written by Madonna and Patrick Leonard has already been played twice live on Madonna tours: in 2001's Drowned World Tour and in 2004's re-Invention Tour.
  14. She's Broken but she's not Sorry Following today's report by Attitude magazine about the titles of new Madonna tracks, we have heard the buzz that there isn't actually a song titled "I'm Sorry" but that's just something Madonna says in the song that is at the moment called "Broken". The other new song by Oakenfold has been correctly reported as being titled "Celebrate" but it is not a rework of the classic "Holiday". It is indeed a new party song. But we heard that "Celebrate" and "Holiday" will be indeed mashed together along with "Everybody" in a brand new number of the Sticky And Sweet tour debuting in London on July 4th. This medley is supposed to replace "Heartbeat" in the setlist while a Rock version of "Dress You Up", as previously reported here, is rehearsed as a replacement of "Bordeline" in the show. 15. Celebration 2CD – First Press Review from Telegraph Madonna’s Celebration shows just how consistently she delivers the goods. Telegraph rating: **** Warner, 2CDs As Madonna delivered her tribute speech about Michael Jackson at the MTV Video Music Awards this week, she assumed the role of ambassador for her generation, reminding us that she was born in the same year as Jackson, 1958. Yet she is still here, still touring, still making music, keeping up with the latest trends rather than trading on nostalgia. As her extensive new greatest hits collection reminds us, there is talent there, too. There are 36 tracks on this double CD, only a couple of which feel dispensable. Both are among the newest – the current single Celebration is infinitely forgettable and Revolver, featuring New Orleans rapper Lil Wayne, shows off his skills better than hers. On the other hand, 4 Minutes, a duet with Justin Timberlake from last year’s album Hard Candy, stands up surprisingly well. It may be lyrically silly, but it’s eminently catchy and that has always been Madonna’s strength. I could live without Take A Bow, but since it was her longest-running US number one, I suppose it deserves inclusion. This compilation is heavily weighted to her glory days – everything on The Immaculate Collection of 1990 is also here except, weirdly, Rescue Me. But the selection from the rest of her career reveals just how consistently she has delivered the goods, with tracks such as Music, Ray of Light, Frozen and Don’t Tell Me. The CD sleeve shows Madonna as a latter-day Marilyn Monroe. She hasn’t yet attained such legendary status, but as the collection’s title suggests, she deserves her moment of celebration.

  17. Madonna Talks: Not the sit-around girl In another excerpt from the new Madonna interview with Larry Flick, the Queen of Pop talks about writing songs. listening to music, and clubbing. LF: You're not the sit-around girl, either, are you? M: No, not much. Not with kids and a job. Every once in a while, I have a moment of reflection. It's usually because I'm forced to look back at it from somebody else's point of you… or if someone does a retrospective of my career. Then I go, "I did all that?" It's usually someone else reminding me. LF: You have a knack of writing songs that are pointed and political, but also for writing songs that are carefree and fun. Which do you think hit people stronger? M: People who are more politically aware and want to be inspired like songs like "American Life," and people who just want to have a good time will like my more let's-have-fun kind of music. I think people are in different moods at different times. I'm in different moods at different times. LF: What kind of music are you listening to a lot these days? M: I'm listening to a lot of electronic music. LF: Do you still like going clubbing? M: Yes, but I certainly don't go clubbing when I'm on tour, because it's not really good for me. You can't talk loud after shows and stuff in smokey nightclubs.
  18. Sep17 Rumour: Madonna to work with Janet Jackson Her dream of singing with good friend Jacko was dashed by his untimely death, but now Madonna is plotting the next best thing – working with his little sister. We can reveal that the Queen of Pop had a secret dinner with Janet Jackson on Sunday evening. Over dinner at Butter in New York, the pair were overheard discussing how to honor Michael by “doing something together”. Earlier Janet, 43, and Madonna, 51, had been hanging out together at the MTV VMAs, where they were seen hugging one another. And when we caught up with Madonna backstage, just after her tribute to Michael, she told us: “Now I’ve finally had a chance to say farewell to my dear friend. “I can now say I have paid my respects to Michael. That’s why I’m here. To say good-bye.” Then she added: “And Janet’s performance was amazing – just the perfect tribute to her brother.” Both stars then left the glitzy bash early – narrowly avoiding the fallout surrounding Kanye West storming the stage and dissing Taylor Swift. Over dinner they seemed to be getting on like old friends. Our insider reveals: “It was a meeting of two great musical try minds. Madonna was so impressed with Janet’s tribute to Michael that they started talking about how great it would be to honour him by doing something together. “With that one performance, Janet proved she’s back on top of her game. And who better to join forces with than Madonna? “There was definitely something very interesting being planned between them.”

  21. 'Cause everybody wants to party with you! The second "Celebration" video has been released today on the official Madonna page at MySpace. Check it out now by clicking HERE. As previously reported by MadonnaTribe, this second edit of the video directed by Jonas Akerlund features the fans filmed on location in Milan and Barcelona during the Sticky & Sweet Tour 2009 and is also set to the music of the Benni Benassi remix of the new single, leaving a version cut to the sound of the original album version unreleased. Madonna's daughter Lola Leon herself plays the "Virgin Bride" along with the Tour dancers performing the other characters from the "She's Not Me" number, dancer Kento can be seen impersonating the King of Pop, and DJ Paul Oakenfold also makes a quick appearance. An advertisement at the end of the videoclip also invites fans to film their own version of the "Celebration" video and upload them to MySpace for a chance to be featured on Madonna.com and MySpace.com.
  22. "There are only a few people at MTV who have ever interviewed Madonna"- Jim Cantiello writes on MTV.com today. "And all the people who have interviewed Madonna all have a certain prestigious history with the network: Kurt Loder, John Norris, a high-level producer here and there." "So you could imagine my surprise when, in the middle of my VMA backstage broadcast for V-Cast Sunday night at the MTV Video Music Awards, a dude in the press department ran up to me and said, "Dude. Madonna. Now." "Whaaat?" "The interview went really well. Hell, I'd even say amazingly well. I know this because Madonna's longtime press guru didn't tackle me after our chat veered into zany territory. Watching the tape back, I have to say Madonna seemed to enjoy herself. She was an amazing sport when I asked her a million questions about Lady Gaga. She shared her legendary lightning-fast wit with me. And my producer made her cackle at one point. Score!" "But I think I might have creeped her out when I admitted I was obsessed with her 12-year-old daughter, Lourdes. In fact, I know I did. Because Madonna told me." "In my defense, I'm not obsessed with Lourdes in any seedy way. I just find her newly-emerging public persona to be really exciting. She has a funky fashion sense and she just made an appearance in her mom's new video. It seems like Lourdes is dipping her toe into the fame pool. I meant to ask Madonna a legitimate question about Lourdes but instead what came out was, "Are you creeped out that I'm obsessed with your daughter?" "Sorry, Madonna! I promise next time I get to interview you I'll be more prepared and ask you all about your upcoming greatest hits album. But admit it: You had fun with me, right?"
  23. Madonna on the wall Work continues at the London flagship of the Louis Vuitton maison in Mayfair. As you probably remember the store had its facade wrapped with the Madonna images from the first campaign shot by Steven Meisel under the direction of Marc Jacobs when it went under renovation this Summer. And now the images outside the building at the corner of New Bond Street and Clifford Street have been replaced with the cool pictures from the Fall campaign as you can see from the photos below shared by our readers Klaus and Emanuel.
  24. Live from NYCShooting for the new Sex And The City movie is currently taking place in the Big Apple, and together with details and spoilers on the plot of the series' second installment as a cinematic production, new shots from the set reveal that the much talked about 80s flashback will see Carrie Bradshaw looking totally like a young Madonna, with just some more color thrown in. Sarah Jessica Parker was photographed with fellow actress Kristin Davis on location yesterday, September 9, wearing a corset, a tutu and a pink ribbon, in an outfit that will instantly remind anyone of the early era Madonna looks - and that will make happy those fans who say there's a little something that makes the Queen of Pop and the Sex and the City star separated at birth.
