  1. Lyrics I turned around Too late To see the fallen star I fell asleep And never saw the sun go down I took your love for granted Thought luck was always on my side I turned around too late And you were gone So give me one more chance Darlin' if you care for me Let me win your love 'Cause you were always there for me If you care for me Be there for me I like to play the queen of hearts And never thought I'd lose I rolled the dice But never showed my hand I planned it out so perfectly So you'd never leave a girl like me I was a fool But now I understand So give me one more chance Darlin' if you care for me Let me win your love 'Cause you were always there for me If you care for me Be there for me Here is the law of the land You play with fire and you'll get burned Here is the lesson I've learned That you don't know what you've got til it's gone So give me one more chance Darlin' if you care for me Let me win your love 'Cause you were always there for me Gimme one more chance Tell me that it's not too late Let me win your love Darlin' please don't hesitate If you care for me Be there for me Give me One more chance Credits Written by Madonna and David Foster Produced and arranged by Madonna and David Foster Keyboards by David Foster Synclavier programming by Simon Franglen Acoustic guitars by Dean Parks Cello by Suzie Katayama Album Something To Remember Single While in the US the second single from Something To Remember was Love Don't Live Here Anymore, a few countries - UK, Japan and Australia - got one of the three new tracks as single in March 1996: One More Chance. Personally, this stunningly beautiful song, which has Madonna only accompanied by an acoustic guitar, is my favorite of the album. The limited single release didn't do much justice to the song, and it only reached #11 in the UK chart and #35 in Australia. Video There was no official video to support the single release of One More Chance, but some music channels showed a compilation of older videos.
  2. Lyrics There are too many questions There is not one solution There is no resurrection There is so much confusion And the love profusion You make me feel You make me know And the love vibration You make me feel You make it shine There are too many options There is no consolation I have lost my illusions What I want is an explanation And the love profusion You make me feel You make me know And the love direction You make me feel You make me shine You make me feel You make me shine You make me feel I got you under my skin I got you under my skin I got you under my skin I got you under my skin There is no comprehension There is real isolation There is so much destruction What I want is a celebration And I know I can feel bad When I get in a bad mood And the world can look so sad Only you make me feel good I got you under my skin I got you under my skin I got you under my skin I got you under my skin I got you under my skin I got you under my skin I got you under my skin I got you under my skin And the love profusion You make me feel You make me know And the love intention You make me feel You make me shine You make me feel You make me shine You make me feel I got you under my skin I got you under my skin I got you under my skin I got you under my skin I got you under my skin I got you under my skin I got you under my skin I got you under my skin And I know I can feel bad When I get in a bad mood And the world can look so sad Only you make me feel good Credits Written by Madonna and Mirwais Ahmadzaï Produced by Madonna and Mirwais Ahmadzaï Programming, guitars and backing vocals by Mirwais Ahmadzaï Album .American Life Single On April 14th, 2003, this song premiered online on the website of AOL. Later that year, the song was used in a commercial for Estée Lauder's Beyond Paradise fragrance. In December 2003 it was released together with Nothing Fails. With both songs appearing on every format, they were considered as a double A-side single in some territories, while charting separately in other places (like UK and Australia). In the US and France, the Love Profusion single was released on March 16th, 2004, using the cover on the left. The same month it already peaked at #1 of the Billboard Hot Dance / Club Play chart. Remixes were made by Blow-Up, The Passengerz, Ralphi Rosario, Craig J. and Ray Caroll. » Buy on Amazon Video Though Nothing Fails was pushed forward as radio single in most territories, it was only Love profusion that got a video. After shooting the Estée Lauder commercial, French director Luc Besson also shot this video in one day in October, using the same concept and visual effects as the commercial. It's a performance video, in which Madonna, in a simple flower dress, walks through two different dimensions: a dark city in stormy weather and a colorful dreamworld with flowers and dancing fairies. "There are a lot of special effects," Madonna said of the clip. "I talked to things that weren't there - which is what you do when you're doing green-screen or blue-screen stuff. There's going to be a lot of fairies dancing around me. "Isn't that exciting?" she added, laughing. "I always have a lot of fairies dancing around me." Tour Surprisingly, Love Profusion wasn't played on the Re-Invention Tour, even though it was Madonna's most recent single. According to rumours she did rehearse the song but cut it out of the final setlist.

Tour On the Blond Ambition Tour Madonna introduced her Dick to the audience. In Nice, France she even called him "ma bite". Dick is not Warren Beatty like in the movie, but one of the dancers. After a short introduction play, they dance together to Now I'm Following You (both parts), taking the audience back to the feel of classic Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers movies. The stage also recalls one of their legendary collaborations.

  5. Lyrics You abandoned me Love don't live here anymore Just a vacancy Love don't live here anymore When you lived inside of me There was nothing I could conceive That you wouldn't do for me Troubles seemed so far away You changed that right away Baby You abandoned me Love don't live here anymore Just a vacancy Love don't live here anymore Love don't live here anymore Just emptiness and memories Of what we had before You went away Found another place to stay Another home You abandoned me Love don't live here anymore Just a vacancy Love don't live here anymore In the windmills of my eyes Everyone can see The loneliness inside me Why'd ya have to go away Don't you know I miss you so And need your love You abandoned me Love don't live here anymore Just a vacancy Love don't live here anymore You abandoned me Love don't live here anymore Live here anymore Love don't live here anymore Don't live here anymore No no, don't, don't live here anymore You abandoned me Love don't live here anymore No, it don't live here anymore Love don't live here anymore It don't live here anymore Credits Written by Miles Gregory Produced by Nile Rodgers Bass by Bernard Edwards Electric and acoustic guitar by Nile Rodgers Assorted synthesizers and bass synthesizer by Rob Sabino Drums by Tony Thompson Background vocals by Madonna, Curtis King, Frank Simms and George Simms Strings contracted by Karen Milne and Kermit Moore Arranged and conducted by Nile Rodgers For Something To Remember: Remix produced, engineered and mixed by David Reitzas Remix keyboards performed by Jan Mullaney Album Like A Virgin Something To Remember Single In 1984 Madonna made a cover of this Rose Royce classic. Alledgedly it was a personal favorite of hers and in 1995 she included the song - in a slightly remixed version - in Something To Remember and released it as a single in March 1996. But obviously nobody had been waiting for the release of a 12-year old cover song; in its first week it couldn't even get into the US Hot 100. Eventually it crawled up to #78, making it one of Madonna's biggest chart flops. Video Probably one of the reasons why the single flopped was the rather lame video by Jean-Baptiste Mondino. The video (set to the Soulpower Remix) was shot in the middle of the Evita filming, so Madonna only spend two days filming it. The video is basically one long shot of Madonna in a big marble room with waving curtains, where she's yearning for love. Most fans agree it's Madonna's most boring video, a far cry from masterpieces as Express Yourself, Bad Girl or Bedtime Story.
  6. Lyrics You can call me a sinner And you can call me a saint Celebrate me for who I am Dislike me for what I ain't Put me up on a pedestal Or drag me down in the dirt Sticks and stones will break my bones But your names will never hurt I'll be the garden, you'll be the snake All of my fruit is yours to take Better the devil that you know Your love for me will grow Because This is who I am You can like it or not You can love me or leave me Cause I'm never gonna stop, no no Cleopatra had her way Mata Hari too Whether they were good or bad Is strictly up to you Life is a paradox And it doesn't make much sense Can't have femme without the fatale Please don't take offense Don't let the fruit rot under the vine Fill up your cup and let's drink the wine Better the devil that you know Your love for me will grow Because This is who I am You can like it or not You can love me or leave me Cause I'm never gonna stop, no no, you know This is who I am You can like it or not You can love me or leave me Cause I'm never gonna stop, no no, you know No no, you know No no, you know No no, you know No no, you know I'll be the garden, you'll be the snake All of my fruit is yours to take Better the devil that you know Your love for me will grow Because This is who I am You can like it or not You can love me or leave me Cause I'm never gonna stop, no no, you know This is who I am You can like it or not You can love me or leave me Cause I'm never gonna stop, no no, you know No no, you know No no, you know No no, you know No no, you know Credits Written by Madonna, Christian Karlsson, Pontus Winnberg and Henrik Jonback Produced by Madonna and Bloodshy & Avant Additional programming by Stuart Price and Mango Guitar and bass by Henrik Jonback Acoustic guitar by Monte Pittman Album Confessions On A Dance Floor Tour Stuart Price on this song "It's the perfect way to end the album. It basically says "This is who I am, this is what I do. Take it or leave it." On the Confessions Tour, Madonna found it the perfect way to end the Bedouin part of the show. The performance is kept very basic, with a sexy Madonna alone on stage, singing and dancing in cabaret-style with a chair as her only attribute, and concentrated on her strong vocals. The screen behind her shows a big green snake, clearly referring to the lyrics. At the end, Madonna disappears from the stage, as a red rose grows from the green plants on the screen.
  7. Lyrics Make love not war we say It's easy to recite But it don't mean a damn Unless we're gonna fight But not with guns and knives We've got to save the lives Of every boy and girl That grows up in this world There's hunger everywhere We've got to take a stand Reach out for someone's hand Love makes the world go round It's easy to forget If you don't hear the sound Of pain and prejudice Love makes the world go round They think that love's a lie But we can teach them how to try Love means to understand Reach out for someone's hand 'Cause everything you do Comes back in time to you We have to change our fate Before it gets too late There's hunger everywhere We've got to take a stand Reach out for someone's hand Love makes the world go round It's easy to forget If you don't hear the sound Of pain and prejudice Love makes the world go round (we've got to take a stand) Love makes the world go round Love makes the world go round (if you don't hear the sound) Love makes the world go round Don't judge a man 'til you've been standin' in his shoes You know that we're all so quick to look away 'Cause it's the easy thing to do You know that what I say is true Love Love makes the world go round Love makes the world go round Love makes the world go round Make love not war we say It's easy to recite But it don't mean a damn Unless we're gonna fight There's hunger everywhere We've got to take a stand Reach out for someone's hand Love makes the world go round It's easy to forget If you don't hear the sound Of pain and prejudice Love makes the world go round (we've got to take a stand) Love makes the world go round Love makes the world go round (if you don't hear the sound) Love makes the world go round La la la la la la la Credits Written by Madonna and Patrick Leonard Produced by Madonna and Patrick Leonard Keyboards by Patrick Leonard Drum programming by Patrick Leonard and Steve Bray Guitars by Paul Jackson Jr. Percussion by Paulinho da Costa Background vocals by Madonna, Siedah Garrett and Edie Lehmann Album True Blue Song This song was heard for the first time when performed by Madonna on the 1985 Live Aid benefit concert. 9. Lyrics Was it just a dream? Did I feel your devotion? Dreams are never what they seem Did we just go through the motions? I keep your photograph by my bed to remind me That I was part of your life I say my prayers to the sandman That he'll find me fast asleep Sleep has always been kind And in my dreams you'll always be mine But in the morning when I wake I remember that my heart does ache Was it just a dream? Did I feel your devotion? Dreams are never what they seem Did we just go through the motions? Was it just a dream? Did I feel your devotion? Dreams are never what they seem Did we just go through the motions? I admit that I did my bit to deceive you But sometimes I was afraid That this day would come How could you just leave me all alone now I have always been strong So I know that I can go on But right now I feel so dead inside Oh sleep come to me, cause that's where I hide Was it just a dream? Did I feel your devotion? Dreams are never what they seem Did we just go through the motions? Was it just a dream? Did I feel your devotion? Dreams are never what they seem Did we just go through the motions? All that I have, all that I ask All my dreams, they fade so fast Don't wake me up, not today All my dreams will fade away And I want him, and I need him I can't live and I'd die just to see him Just to feel his hands on my face Smell his skin, and his warm embrace Cause it's all that I have And it's fading so fast Mmmm, mmmm Uh, uh huh Now I have always been strong So I know that I can go on But right now I feel so dead inside Oh sleep come to me, cause that's where I hide Was it just a dream? Dreams are never what they seem Did we just go through the motions? All that I have, all that I ask All my dreams, they fade so fast Don't wake me up, not today All my dreams will fade away (Was it just a dream?) Credits Written by Junior Vasquez, José Guitereze and Luis Camacho Album None Song 'Queen's English' is a song by Junior Vasquez and Blond Ambition dancers José and Luis. Madonna sings backing vocals. It featured on the Sire/Warner compilation 'New Faces' and was released as a single. In a fansite interview Luis explains: "Queen's English is another term for our "gay pig latin" that we use to speak. We thought it would be funny to capitalize on this way of speaking because we spoke it so much to each other. Whether it was reading some other queen or just trying to communicate with each other without the other person knowing what we were talking about. Madonna liked the idea and said she was down to sing the hook."
  12. Lyrics Little girl Don't you forget her face Laughing away your tears When she was the one who felt all the pain Little girl Never forget her eyes Keep them alive inside I promise to try It's not the same Keep your head held high Ride like the wind Never look behind Life isn't fair That's what you said So I try not to care Little girl Don't run away so fast I think you forgot to kiss Kiss her goodbye Will she see me cry when I stumble and fall Does she hear my voice in the night when I call Wipe away all your tears, it's gonna be all right I fought to be so strong I guess you knew I was afraid You'd go away too Little girl You've got to forget the past And learn to forgive me I promise to try But it feels like a lie Don't let memory play games with your mind She's a faded smile frozen in time I'm still hanging on But I'm doing it wrong Can't kiss her goodbye But I promise to try Credits Written by Madonna and Patrick Leonard Produced by Madonna and Patrick Leonard Album Like A Prayer Song Madonna has never made a secret of it that the death of her mother had an enormous influence on her life. No surprise that this influenced her music as well. On the Like A Prayer album - dedicated to her mother - she sings for the first time about very personal feelings like her relationship with her father (Oh Father), her divorce from Sean Penn (Till Death Do Us Part) and family values (Keep It Together). In Promise To Try she tries to deal with her mother's death. It wouldn't be the last time she sang about her mother; the theme returned in Inside Of Me, Mer Girl and Mother And Father.

Lyrics You lost your reputation on a woman You didn't understand or care to know You get your education from your lovers But now there's just no place for you to go It doesn't pay To be a runaway lover It doesn't pay To give away what you lack You'll never get your money back You're set adrift with no direction Just like a ship that's lost at sea You don't care where you drop your anchor Make sure it doesn't land on me It doesn't pay To be a runaway lover It doesn't pay To give away what you lack You'll never get your money back It doesn't pay To be a runaway lover It doesn't pay To give away what you lack You'll never get your money back (It doesn't pay, doesn't pay, doesn't pay,...) Walking around on a cloud 'Cause every girl you meet just trips on you Saying your name out loud I guess you met your match Now what will you do Uh uh, no way It doesn't pay To be a runaway lover It doesn't pay To give away what you lack You'll never get your money back It doesn't pay To be a runaway lover It doesn't pay To give away what you lack You'll never get your money back Walking around on a cloud 'Cause every girl you meet just trips on you Saying your name out loud I guess you met your match Now what will you do It doesn't pay It doesn't pay It doesn't pay To give your heart away To a runaway lover Uh uh, no way Uh uh, no way Uh uh, no way Credits Written by Madonna and William Orbit Produced by Madonna and William Orbit Keyboards, guitars and backing vocals by William Orbit Drums by Steve Sidelnyk Album Music Song This song moves away from the deep, spiritual lyrics that were remarkable for Ray Of Light, but instead opts for a heavy dancefloor track. Madonna performed it during her gigs at the Roseland Ballroom and the Brixton Academy in November 2000, but nixed the song from her Drowned World Tour.

  16. yrics Colonel Peron Eva Duarte I've heard so much about you! I'm amazed for I'm only an actress (a soldier) Nothing to shout about (One of the thousands) Only a girl on the edge (Defending the country he loves) But when you act, the things you do affect us all But when you act, you take us away from the squalor of the real world Are you here on your own? Yes, Oh yes So am I What a fortunate coincidence Maybe you're my reward for my efforts here tonight It seems crazy but you must believe There's nothing calculated, nothing planned Please forgive me if I seem naive I would never want to force your hand But please understand I'd be good for you I don't always rush in like this Twenty seconds after saying hello Telling strangers I'm too good to miss If I'm wrong I hope you'll tell me so But you really should know I'd be good for you I'd be surprisingly good for you I won't go on if I'm boring you But do you understand my point of view Do you like what you hear, what you see, and would you be Good for me too? I'm not talking of a hurried night A frantic tumble then a shy goodbye Creeping home before it gets too light That's not the reason that I caught your eye Which has to imply I'd be good for you I'd be surprisingly good for you Please go on you enthrall me I can understand you perfectly And I like what I hear, what I see, and knowing me I would be good for you too I'm not talking of a hurried night A frantic tumble then a shy goodbye Creeping home before it gets too light That's not the reason that I caught your eye Which has to imply I'd be good for you I'd be surprisingly good for you. Lyrics This guy was meant for me And I was meant for him This guy was dreamt for me And I was dreamt for him This guy has danced for me And I have danced for him This guy has cried for me And I have cried for him Many miles, many roads I have traveled Fallen down on the way Many hearts, many years have unraveled Leading up to today This guy has prayed for me And I have prayed for him This guy was made for me And I was made for him Many miles, many roads I have traveled Fallen down on the way Many hearts, many years have unraveled Leading up to today I have no regrets There's nothing to forget All the pain was worth it Not running from the past I tried to do what's best I know that I deserve it Many miles, many roads I have traveled Fallen down on the way Many hearts, many years have unraveled Leading up to today Many miles, many roads I have traveled Fallen down on the way Many hearts, many years have unraveled Leading up to today And I thank you Credits Written by Madonna and Mirwais Ahmadzaï Produced by Madonna and Mirwais Ahmadzaï Programming, acoustic guitar and keyboards by Mirwais Ahmadzaï Album Music Song This was one of the first songs from Music fans heard about. In an interview during the production of the album Mirwais said "We worked on this song called 'I Deserve It' and I really like it, I think it's one of the best of the album." This song is clearly dedicated to 'the Guy that was meant for her'. Performing in London she explicitly dedicated the song to her husband. In one interview however Madonna was asked if she had written a song for her son Rocco and she answered "Well, 'I Deserve It' could be about him." Tour During the Drowned World Tour in Barcelona, I was standing front row on the right corner of the stage when Madonna rose out of the stage, sitting on a few bales of hay. Playing the acoustic guitar she sang I Deserve It, which was really touching. When she performed it in London she dedicated the song to her husband Guy Ritchie, "the coolest guy in the universe". Remember she once dedicated the True Blue album to "her husband, the coolest guy in the universe", but that was a different husband!

It was first available as a free download on MSN.com on May 16th, 2007. It stayed there free for a week with MSN donating $0.25 per download to the Alliance for Climate Protection. Hey You originates from the Mirwais track Keep The Trance, recorded in 2004 with most of the lyrics coming from that demo, but uses a different melody and instrumentation, made with Pharrell. Madonna performed the song at the Live Earth concert in London on July 7th, 2007. She was the closing act in the new Wembley Stadium, and she opened her 4 song set with Hey You. She just stood onstage looking all gorgeous in a black dress and gave a sincere rendition with a children's choir. Video The video consisted of a series of imagery related to Live Earth, global warming and politics. Among them were images of political leaders, of natural disasters, of starvation, but also of the good things that Mother Earth offers us and that we should cherish. The images were interspersed with parts of the lyrics, written out on the screen.

When he recorded it somewhere in 1999, his wife - Madonna's sister Melanie - advised him to send it to Madonna. And Melanie was right, because Madonna loved the song and re-arranged it with Mirwais into a beautiful track, called Don't Tell Me. Most of the lyrics from Stop were used, but the song got a completely different rhythm and groove. Album Music GHV2 Celebration Single Don't Tell Me was the second single release from Music. It was brought to radio in November 2000. It climbed the charts slowly, reaching #4 in the US, and staying in the charts for several weeks, making it the longest growing single since Take A Bow. In March 2001 it was certified Gold. With this 24th golden record, Madonna tied The Beatles for the second spot of most golden records. #1 is for Elvis, who had 51. DTM also reached #4 in the UK and #1 in Canada. » Buy on Amazon Video A video directed by Jean Baptiste Mondino just has to be a beautiful masterpiece. And Don't Tell Me is. Madonna toyed with her new country style, giving it a sexy groove. She's seen walking down a desert road, but as the camera zooms out, she's actually walking in front of a big screen. But then where did that truck go? As the beat kicks in Madonna is joined by four cowboys for a fantastic line dance. It's extraordinary how the video combines images of her wearing plaid and jeans, and blonde curls waving in the wind, with images of a sexy Madonna in a black leather suit. The choreography was done by Alex Magno who also collaborated on the Drowned World Tour. The tour designers D-Squared and Arianne Phillips also designed her cowgirl-outfit in the video. Tour As a true cowgirl Madonna performed Don't Tell Me on the Drowned World Tour. First she started singing all alone. Then she asked the audience to sing the chorus for her. With a loud 'WOW!' she then kicked into that fantastic line dance, together with the cowboy dancers on stage. Finally in the end, she's left alone in the spotlight as she vulnerably sings 'please don't... please don't... please don't tell me... to stop...". Beautiful! Don't Tell Me got a special treatment on the Re-Invention Tour: there were two different versions of the performance. The 'French version' included a French accordeon interlude, while the skyline of Paris was used as backdrop on the video screen. This version was played on most US shows and of course in Paris too. But there was also an 'English version' with a sample of The Verve's 'Bittersweet Symphony' as interlude, an adapted choreography and the London skyline as backdrop. This version was played on some of the late US shows, 1 show in Arnhem, Lisbon and of course all of the British shows. Of course, the classic group dance couldn't fail. At the end Madonna teased the audience by not finishing her sentence 'Don't ever tell me...' After repeating a few times she used to sing 'Don't you ever, ever, never tell me... to what?! To what mother f*ckers??!' with the audience shouting 'To stop!!!'.
