Living in a material world
Madge and her 13-year-old daughter, Lourdes, collaborated on a new juniors line, Material Girl, that debuts exclusively on Aug. 3 at Macy's.
Material Girl, which Madonna calls an extension of Lourdes' taste, bears heavy marks of '80s punk. Looks feature tutus with combat boots, and boyfriend sweatshirts with miniskirts. Pieces retail for $12 to $14; the line includes clothing, shoes, handbags and jewelry.
"We like to combine, say, like a plaid or a flannel with a lace or leather with lace or rhinestones," Madonna said in a news release. "So we mix and match textures and fabrics and elements that are both masculine and feminine."
No stranger to being a fashion icon, Madonna's look propelled teen fashion in the 1980s, especially after her starring role in "Desperately Seeking Susan."
With every reinvention, the pop queen introduces a new look to the mainstream. In 2007, Madonna collaborated with H&M, introducing her classic look at affordable prices.
