Madonna Makes Things Happen In Malawai
Every day a multitude of stars wander through the halls of MTV News to talk about their latest projects and goof around with our intrepid correspondents. But sometimes we catch stars elsewhere, and that's why we put together Spotted!, a daily compendium of stars in the wild.
Madonna likes to keep busy. The dance music maven from Michigan has morphed from an early MTV provocateur into a worldwide phenomenon. And like any superstar, she has spread out to embrace not only music but also movies, fashion and charity as a part of her empire. On Thursday (April 8), Madonna visited the Mphandula Childcare Centre in Lilongwe, Malawai, accompanied by daughter Lourdes and adopted daughter Mercy James (who she rescued following the death of the girl's mother a few years ago). She was visiting her the nation to help get work started on a school for girls she is building there. It has been held up for a while, but is now ready to move. "It is my dream that the girls who come to this school will go to college and becomes doctors and lawyers and be future leaders of their country," she said.
